Our History

M. Roberts Media is a family-owned company that traces its roots back to Morris Roberts’ role in a conglomerate that acquired the Victoria Advocate in 1942.

In 1961, Roberts purchased all stock and became sole owner of the Advocate. He shared ownership with his son, John M. Roberts, who serves as Chairman of the Board, and daughter Catherine R. McHaney, who is Secretary-Treasurer. The third generation of family leadership is embodied in Roberts’ grandson, Stephen McHaney, who is publisher of the Longview News-Journal as well as President of M. Roberts Media.

Since that time, M. Roberts Media has grown and acquired 6 more newspapers, a digital agency, several magazines, and a printing company.
